3D Game Review - Socom 4

Game (3 out of 5)

Socom 4 is a standard first person shooter game. The graphics and sound are top notch, but the story left a lot to be desired. If you enjoy running from point A to point B and shooting bad guys then you'll probably enjoy the game. Just don't expect an Uncharted type storyline to go with it.

3D Effect (4.5 out of 5)

The 3D is where this game really stands out. Certainly one of the best 3D games I've played to date. The depth in this game is absolutely incredible. There are scenes where you have explosions and fire all around you, smoke everywhere and bullets flying by your head, that are absolutely exhilarating.

There was minimal ghosting on my Sony HX800. Occasionally the white aiming crossbar showed a little ghosting, but outside of that the image was flawless. 100 times better than Killzone 3 or Crysis 2.

Without the 3D this is a very average game, but the 3D makes this this a definite buy in my opinion. Definitely a game to show off your 3D gaming system.

Hate 3D? Then You're A Geek

It's January again, which means two things:
  1. We get to find out what's new and exciting at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and
  2. We get to read dozens of stories from self-proclaimed experts declaring their "hatred" toward 3D and telling us that 3D is "dead" (once again).
Well, I've got news for you. If you hate 3D you are a geek.

It's true. And here's why:
  1. You probably already wear glasses, and therefore don't want to wear another pair. You express your annoyance with having to wear a second pair by calling the 3D glasses "ridiculous" or "absurd". Sorry, but coke bottle glasses = GEEK. If you've got a problem with that then it's time to consider contacts or laser eye surgery.
  2. You like to say things like, "when they can make a hologram TV let me know". A hologram TV? Can you say Trekkie? (Or is it Trecker?) I don't know, but nothing screams out GEEK more than a Trekkie.
  3. You complain that 3D hurts your eyes. I'm sorry, but your eye muscles are just like every other muscle in your body, if they're being used differently or for the first time they are going to feel a little strained. This is the same reason you are still a 90-pound weakling (or a 300-pound sloth). The moment you tried to do a little exercise it felt "uncomfortable" and you gave up and sat down on your fat ass to watch Star Wars for the 200th time.
  4. You complain that 3D makes you feel nauseated. My guess is real life makes you nauseated. Take an aspirin. Enough said.
You don't like 3D? Get over it! Or just shut up already and let the rest of us enjoy it.
